The Burn After Reading Premier Experience

November 19, 2008 · Filed Under blogging, movies · 6 Comments

Last night, some bloggers got the chance to watch the advance screening of Burn After Reading – a witty, funny movie featuring a lot of old people, topbilled by “the” John Malkovich, Brad Pitt, and George Clooney included. Mygulay, what happened to them? All the “sexy” in them got sucked out in this movie. :D

Brad Pitt

Anyway, I arrived there on time — 6:30 as written in the email, registered, got two tickets, ate, and then watched the movie. Like what Ive mentioned in the Nuffnang blog, I was there for a movie date with my mom, who was even first in line. lol. Nuffnang gave away a few gift certificates, one for the first blogger to have written about the contest, the other for the “early bird”, and the last, randomly won by miss gorgeous. Maybe next time, there’d be an opportunity for the bloggers to introduce themselves, so we’d know who’s who… Para di na feeling close, close na talaga. oha. :D

The movie’s fun.. (not as fun as playing with the PS3, but fun in a weird way… hehehe. it was twisted in all corners. It’s the only film I saw where philanderers get to continue their ways, while the “good guys” got all butchered and killed… not to mention that the vain gets to fulfill their wishes no matter what the cost. It also reveals how nobodys remain as such, nobody cares about them — not even the cia. toinks.

Super farce.

PS: I kinda already knew that the film’s gonna be magulo in a way, and it will be abruptly cut. A friend from Jam88.3 told me this, cause they had a premier the day before. He actually offered to give me some tickets for their premier, but politely declined since I “knew” I was going to get some from nuffnang. Talk about positive thinking. :D

Spying Over Burn After Reading

November 13, 2008 · Filed Under blogging, movies · 5 Comments

burn after reading

Nuffnang bloggers unite! Our “mother agency” (hehehe) is organizing our very first movie premier — and the film featured is Fafa Brad Pitt’s Burn After Reading. It’s gonna be on November 18 (that’s a Tuesday at 7:30pm) at the Robinsons Movie World, Robinsons Galleria.

So why do I wanna watch this film… Let me count the reasons:

1. It’s always great to see new films. Am not really a fan of fafa Brad nor George Clooney, but I know the makers of this film (the brothers) are award-winning, so maybe, this would be something worthy to watch.
2. It’s a movie premier — and a premier for a fun spy movie featuring “sexy” men… Plus, a lot of good things come during premiers.
3. It’s an opportunity to meet bloggers (I only know a few, Im shy kasi hehehe :D )
4. It would be a fun treat for my movie buddy! Bonding time!!!
5. And the super honest reason? If I could get in for free, why not! Hehehe!

The Burn After Reading Movie Premiere is made possible by Nuffnang Philippines Inc. in cooperation with Viva Entertainment Inc and Robinsons Movie World.

Movie addicts, better watch out!

PS: A movie with sexy men? Somebody give me some dietpills! Hahaha!

Poverty, We Can Do Something About It

October 15, 2008 · Filed Under blogging, opinion · Comment

Sad truth: Poverty is already a given in the Philippines…

.. but we definitely can do something about it.

Photo from Habitat.org

Based on the National Statistical Coordination Board report, there is a growing number of poor Filipinos over the years — that in 2006, out of 100 Filipinos, 33 were poor as compared with 30 in 2003. In Tawi-Tawi alone, 8 out of 10 families are said to be poor, making the province the poorest in the land.

That data is the most recent they have, and that was already two years back. With the crisis (and the alleged corruption) that has been happening in the country, it would not be surprising if the figure balloons to 36, even 40 out of 100, and in Tawi-Tawi, perhaps, 9 out of 10… of course, we hope not.

These figures may be a representation of how poor we are as a nation, but, the good thing is, we can do something about it.

Now, there have been many organizations and foundations trying to help the poor, and if you wish to give to them, please do so. The world is for us to take, as they say, but it is also for us to give to the world. It’s the essence of our being, in my humble opinion — that for every blessing we receive, let us be a blessing to others as well.

So what can we do to help?

- Help Build Homes. Gawad Kalinga is a master of this. GK helps build homes for the poor, and this has been going on for years already. With a vision of a “slum-free, squatter-free nation” by providing “land for the landless, homes for the homeless, and food for the hungry”… eventually, there would be “dignity and peace for every Filipino”.

- Education is key towards upliftment. If you have the means, help a poor child by sending him to school, through World Vision. All it takes is about 600 pesos per month. That’s just PhP 7,200.00 a year, probably the cost of the cheapest camera phone. Wouldnt it be nice to help one child out of poverty by sending him to school?

- Feeding Programs. There are many non-government organizations and foundations offering feeding programs to the poor, especially to streetchildren. Volunteer to do counseling, or atleast donate so you could give them something to eat. I know Radio Veritas is doing this at night, feeding people who have no food to eat.

- Do Outreach. Now, for sure, everybody has done this. There’s always somebody who’s in need of somebody. It’s always easy to pool resources together to help others who are in need. There are a number of poor abandoned children always waiting for your assistance, plus the many victims of calamities. They’re houses now washed out, no food to eat, no clothes to wear.

There are a number of foundations helping our poor here in the Philippines. For a list of accredited foundations here in the Philippines, click here.

TheFilipinoWeb TV Debut

October 15, 2008 · Filed Under blogging, tv · 7 Comments

Nothing serious, just wanna commemorate the day (and night) this blog got “shown” on tv.

tfw on tv

I was watching the news last night (TV Patrol) and there it was, on tv, in celebrity news, as reported by Nina Corpus. It was about the Pinoy Fear Factor contestants, a teaser, more like it, which I read from the abs-cbn website.

Was not able to take a picture (for posterity, lol, hahaha!), good thing it was re-aired this morning at Umagang Kay Ganda. Was still in bed, so my mom took a picture instead.

I was happily surprised. Another birthday present I guess…

Ansayasaya… :D
