Arroyo Federalism and 2010 Charter Change
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is pushing for federalism in Mindanao, this amidst everything that has been happening in the South where there’s trouble.
As am writing this, TV Patrol just had a flash report that a municipal office has been taken over, and several houses have been burned. Even the Commission on Human Rights is worried, especially since a lot of civilians are now at a lost, and are forced to flee their homes out of fear.
And so the Commission is calling on the authorities to do their best to protect these people… Even Congressman Hontiveros-Baraquiel’s been calling for a ceasefire before things get worse and become a humanitarian crisis. Senator Mar Roxas said he doesnt want the country “chopped”…
But the President’s firm on pushing for federalism cause it is “a way to ensure long lasting peace in Mindanao”. Haaay, hope our officials get united so they could altogether solve this problem.
Cliche’ as this may sound but we need peace… but not just the ordinary peace…
Peace, to have meaning for many who have only known suffering in both peace and war, must be translated into bread or rice, shelter, health and education, as well as freedom and human dignity. — Ralph Johnson Bunche (1904-1971)
We need food for our poor people, we need shelter for the homeless, we need education for our children..
We need peace.
