My first Sony experience is with my Sony Handycam
It’s a handycam, yes, but it’s more than just that… It’s a weaver of dreams, and of memories.
See, I was a college senior when I first got this cam (was a gift from my parents). They bought it cause I need it — we had to come up with a film for our Film Production subject.
So there we were, all eight of us — Ryan, Joana, Lowla, Dexter, Bel, Nadea, Kiko, and me (of course)… off to Pantihan, Maragondon, Cavite to shoot. We were armed with our costumes, lamps, our script, and of course, my Sony handycam.
Our film’s called Anino sa Buwan (Shadow in the Moon). It’s a suspense thriller (written by Ryan), and is about a barrio lady seeking revenge cause she got raped and killed. There were a lot of things going on in the film — there’s voodoo, spiritualism, old beliefs — birth, love, and death.

We must have been really, really creative that we won majority of the awards — eight to be exact, including Best Picture, which was no easy feat considering the fact that we have, as one of the judges, “the” Roy Iglesias, our professor… who has, himself, written several films, including Mano Po, Ang Babae sa Bintana, Feng Shui, Prosti, Ako Legal Wife, among many others. I mean, he has the eye, and he knows what he’s doing…
Now, that’s us in the picture holding our trophies (the old lady’s the proud mom of Nadea, the one in red), and was taken almost ten years ago. None of us really did get to become a filmmaker — although one, Ryan, gets into tv broadcasting from time to time. Most have chosen an entirely different field, one became a full-time mom, and one — our main actress, Joana (the one beside the old lady), has now gone to heaven.
The handycam is a weaver of memories… for the film is the only physical remembrance we have of Joana. On her funeral, her mom’s request was to have a copy of the film. Through Sony, my friend was immortalized.
When all is gone, it is the memory that stays forever… we just have to go on with the flow, embrace whatever’s being given to us.
… but as always, we have to move forward… My Sony Handycam definitely gave significance in my life just like Sony’s World’s First Noise Canceling Notebook Computer cause as things change, this is something that could help me — help me now as I venture into another aspect of my persona –as a writer and as a graphic artist.
