How to Live in the Province and be Self Sustaining.

Living in the province is so laid back you can actually stay in bed sleeping the whole day. Of course you wont do this unless you’re sick. And besides having to spend your whole day in bed would eventually make you jaded and useless at the same time.

Living in this condition is not a hard thing to do but hopefully it doesn’t get into your system because as soon as the laziness kicks in, you wont want to work ever again. :)

So to start with, here’s how to live in the province and be self-sustaining:

1. Business. It’s good to start having your own business establishment first. If not business, something to have you earning while in the province. Sort of like passive, wherein you don’t lift a finger and yet the money comes in fluidly. Easy to get hold of, whenever and wherever you need it.

2. Down-size. It would also help if you learn how to downsize your standard of living. Meaning, no expensive coffee, no fancy restaurants and no malls to roam around. Just fresh air to breath and big backyard to walk around.

3. Learn Basic Gardening. You don’t want to spend much on food? Learn how to plant. Planting your own food would save a lot of money and provides a good therapy too. It eases you of stress and relaxes your body as you garden. Besides knowing where your food is growing is a relieving feeling already.

5. Learn Basic Poultry. Have your own chicken in your backyard and get fresh eggs and sinampalukan or tinola everyday.

4. Learn to befriend your neighbors or be close to your family. Having your support group is one thing to remember. In this case, it is a good back up plan in case you’re tired of walking alone in your own backyard, or needed anything to fix in your house, or some emergencies that you need someone to help you out with.

Those are just few of the things you’ll find interesting to do or learn to live with when you decide living in the province. Not a very hard thing to do yet a lot are still lured in the jungle we call “city”. Maybe a little educating is what our urbanistas need.

I am sorry but I do not agree with what you said, I live in the province, and people here are more industrious, they wake up early in the morning, enjoy the early sunshine and the blessings of the nature, do their everyday chores enthusiastically. We do not consume our time in doing vain things such as busying ourselves with the latest fashion etc. but instead are more productive in preserving the nature, living healthy and helping the economy overcome the food crises. Actually, I have so much more to say… on how too little you know about living in the province. grow up dude, you are so pathetic and immature.

hmmnn. i think the post is more positively-slanted as far as people from the province are concerned. these are reminders for people in the city that if they are thinking of living in the province, they have to adjust and be as industrious as our folks outside the metro. i guess the author has urbanistas in mind when this article was written. anyway, there’s not much difference na in the city and the provinces, kaibahan siguro na lang ay mas malinis talaga sa probinsya at mas magalang at mababait. :)

Hi hunny, sorry if I have offended you in anyway but joy is right. This article is meant to show urbanistas how to grasp the idea of living in the provinces. It was supposed to be positively written. What you said is true, people in the province embrace life and enjoy it to the fullest. Having the freshest air, and the good blessings of nature. Having the chance to preserve its natural beauty is what I as an urbanista envy. That’s why every chance I get to see the province, I take it. :)
