Rhian Ramos is La Lola

October 8, 2008 · Filed Under tv · 4 Comments

Rhian Ramos gets her first starring role in the Pinoy version of “La Lola”, a soap originally from Argentina. The Philippines is actually the first Asian country to have acquired a franchise.

This probably is the best birthday gift for her, having just turned eighteen, as far as her showbiz career is concerned. She plays Lola, the title role, so who could beat that. La Lola is about a playboy, Ramiro “Lalo” Padilla, who gets cursed and gets transformed into a woman — name changed to Lolita “Lola” Padilla.

Also in the cast are JC de Vera (he’s so gwapo!), Eula Valdez, Angelika dela Cruz, Keempee de Leon, Eddie Garcia, Marky Cielo, Marvin Agustin, and Lovi Poe, with the special participation of Wendell Ramos (as Lalo), Jewel Mische, Isabel Granada, and Iza Calzado.

La Lola is directed by Dominic Zapata, and will start airing on October 13, 2008 on GMA kapuso network.

Hope Rhian pulls this off… she’s as sweet as a cookie.

Angelina Jolie Twins and Pinoy Celebrity Twins

It’s all over the news… Brangelina’s 14 million dollar twin babies (and that’s just for the pictures, mind you!). But Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s new babies, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, are not the only twins who interest people…

There’s the Olsen Twins, Mary Kate and Ashley, who made collective fortune when they were about three, and well, continue to do so with their fashion empire… Mary Kate will even appear in a magazine cover soon (yet, again)!

Now, on the local scene, we have no less than the Gutierrez, the Villaroel-Legaspi, and the Muhlach twins!

So first, we have Richard and Raymond Gutierrez, the sons of the beautiful Annabelle Rama and the handsome Eddie Gutierrez (and brothers of beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez). They first appeared as child stars in movies like “Feel na Feel”, and now, have gone separate ways as adults — with Richard being one of the country’s hottest matinee idols, and Raymond, a bankable tv and event host. Both are GMA kapuso network artists.

Then we have Atasha and Andres, twins of beauty queen Charlene Gonzales, and showbiz hearthrob Aga Muhlach. The twins are super cute, must be genes (just look at the parents!)… and have been appearing in commercials like Jollibee.

Then of course, we have Cassandra and Maverick, or Mavy and Cassy, twins of actors Carmina Villaroel and Zoren Legaspi. Now, these two are among the hottest young celebrity endorsers cause they’re more than just cute, they’re bibo too! They’ve appeared in a lot of ads including Colgate, Payless, and Nido. And for sure, they’re only just starting!

It’s twin season!

Joey de Leon Resigns from Manila Bulletin

August 2, 2008 · Filed Under tv · Comments Off

Multi-talented artist and media personality Joey de Leon resigns from Manila Bulletin, as reported in last night’s 24 Oras (kapuso network GMA 7’s news program).

Joey is said to have resigned after reading a column in Balita, a sister publication of Manila Bulletin, where one columnist wrote that the Eat Bulaga show in Los Angeles last July 19 was a flop, and even claimed that it is “understandable” because “wala pang matatag na connection sa mga Pinoy sa Tate ang GMA-7″.

In a follow-up report by GMAnews, Joey stressed his resignation even if Balita has a different editorial board saying, “Hindi ko matiis talaga na kahit kapatid lang na publication may kasamang sinungaling.”

Anyway, the LA production was shown today so we already know that the show was indeed a success.

To end, Eat Bulaga is an institution and regardless of it being shown in GMA 7, it already is Pinoy culture… Pinoys love it, and will continue doing so, even if you put it in Channel 4.
